One Hygienist. A Whole Region in Need. Help Us Change That.
The SIL Medical Clinic in Ukarumpa provides services to local communities in Papua New Guinea. WRDF has been supporting the clinic with a number of projects to assist PNG citizens in the nearby Ayura region.
We have now opened a generic fund for the clinic that we hope can ‘house’ future needs as they arise, but always with a focus on supporting the needs of locals.
Our latest focus is to assist the clinic in updating and expanding the scope of their dental facility to a fully equipped dental clinic.
The clinic manager notes “Five years ago, the SIL dental clinic was incredibly busy! We had two full-time dentists, one part-time dentist, two dental assistants, and a lab technician. However, today, we only have one dental hygienist working in our clinic. Consequently, there’s no dental clinic in the area that can provide quality care, and many people suffer with significant dental issues”.
“This project would allow us to accommodate short-term or long-term dentists who wish to work in PNG. It would also make it easier to recruit dentists, dental assistants, and dental lab technicians, as they would have a better facility to work in.”
A couple from Peru have already committed to working long-term with the SIL Clinic and are actively working towards their arrival in 2026.
This project will co-fund the purchase of the needed equipment, alongside medical specialists and the clinic’s own resources.
