In many countries people with hearing disability are often excluded from mainstream society due to a lack of resources and training in the local sign language.
In the Solomon Islands this project aims to address this issue by developing educational resources such as training videos, printed materials and a mobile phone application to be used to support the delivery of sign language education.
Camera equipment has now been purchased and will be used to create the language training materials. The aim is to broaden the understanding of the standardized sign language in the deaf community and then expand the breadth of this knowledge to key public service and educational organisations.
We are currently waiting for Stage 2 of this project for the deaf community to commence.
